What are the limitations and difficulties of chemical etching processing?

Chemical etching can only be used as a benchmark for progressive cutting based on the original surface state of the part. The shape and surface state of the part after chemical etching are directly related to the original shape and surface state of the part.

Chemical etching also has its own process limitations, mainly the following points:

  1. Chemical etching cannot be used for processing parts with complex shapes on rough surface plates, bars, etc. If it is necessary to process very thin webs or some shallow flanges on certain parts of complex parts, the entire geometric shape must be processed to a certain extent by mechanical means first, and the subsequent chemical etching is just parallel to the processed surface to evenly etch away a layer of metal to achieve the required thickness and shape.
  2. Chemical etching cannot be used to process structural parts with very strict tolerance requirements. The adhesion of the graphic anti-corrosion layer and the change of the corrosive agent composition during the processing process will cause changes in the corrosion coefficient. The geometric shape of the chemically etched edge will also have a certain deviation. It should be noted that chemical etching cannot be used to process narrow and deep grooves. This is because the bubbles generated by the chemical etching reaction will gather under the edge of the corrosion protection layer, and these bubbles blocked under the corrosion protection layer actually play the role of separating the metal surface from the corrosive agent. At the same time, the surface tension of the etching solution also causes corrosion to be unable to proceed on narrow or small radius surfaces. For deep grooves, the width is required to be no less than 4mm, and for small grooves or round holes, the width or radius is required to be no less than 1.5 times the depth.
  3. Chemical etching drilling is different from mechanical and electrolytic drilling. It cannot produce the hole shape that the latter two can produce. Chemical etching drilling can only produce irregular conical holes. For deep chemical etching drilling, the tolerance increases due to the long etching time, so chemical drilling is rarely used except in special circumstances.
